🇩🇪 Merz Receives Appointment Certificate from German President – Takes Oath in Bundestag

Newly appointed Chancellor Friedrich Merz has officially received his certificate of appointment from German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and returned to the Bundestag to take his oath of office.

During the swearing-in ceremony, Merz stated:

“I solemnly swear that I will dedicate my efforts to the well-being of the German people, promote their welfare, protect them from harm, uphold and defend the Basic Law and the laws of the Federation, fulfill my duties conscientiously, and do justice to everyone. So help me God.”

The final phrase, “So help me God,” is optional in Germany. Former Chancellor Olaf Scholz omitted it during his own swearing-in, but Merz, a practicing Catholic, chose to include it.

🏛️ A Busy Start to Leadership

Later today, Merz will continue with ceremonial procedures, including the expected confirmation of his cabinet ministers. While the full cabinet lineup has not yet been formally announced, diplomatic travel plans are already in motion.

Merz is scheduled to visit Paris and Warsaw as early as tomorrow—an early signal of his promise that “Germany is back” on the international stage.

⚠️ Major Challenges Ahead

Merz takes office amid a range of pressing challenges. From global security concerns and economic uncertainty to internal debates over immigration and governance, the road ahead is unlikely to be smooth for his administration.

Still, with firm support and renewed diplomatic energy, Germany’s new leadership enters a pivotal moment both domestically and internationally.
