Powerful 7.0 Magnitude Earthquake Hits Humboldt Coast, Tsunami Warning Issued

A powerful earthquake struck off the coast of Humboldt County on Thursday morning, prompting a tsunami warning for parts of Northern California’s coastline.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), the quake occurred at 10:44 AM west of Petrolia, California, in the Pacific Ocean.

Initially recorded as a 6.6 magnitude, the earthquake was later upgraded to 7.0 by USGS.

A tsunami warning was issued for areas 45 miles southwest of Eureka, as reported by international media and relayed by Telegrafi.

Shortly after the main quake, a significant 5.8 magnitude aftershock struck near Cobb, California, in Lake County.

Several smaller aftershocks followed within minutes of the 7.0 magnitude quake, ranging between 2.5 and 4.2 on the Richter scale.

Authorities are urging residents in affected areas to remain alert and prepared for potential further seismic activity. Emergency services are monitoring the situation closely, and coastal communities have been advised to stay cautious as tsunami warnings remain in effect.
