Bardhi Accuses Rama of Pressuring SPAK to Close Investigations into His Brother Olsi
The Chairman of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party, Gazment Bardhi, has accused Prime Minister Edi Rama of attempting to pressure SPAK (Special Anti-Corruption Structure) to halt investigations involving his brother, Olsi Rama. Bardhi claims there are suspicions that Olsi Rama was involved in a cocaine trafficking network uncovered in Xibrakë, Elbasan, in 2015 – a case that allegedly was attempted to be closed in 2018.
In a Facebook post, Bardhi stated that Rama’s message, published after Bardhi requested an interpellation regarding the Bechetti case, was nothing more than a criminal threat directed at institutions, motivated by fear of ongoing investigations. Bardhi added that as more messages from Sky ECC and the latest MATRIX leaks surface, the Prime Minister intensifies his efforts to evade responsibility and accountability to the Albanian public.
Full Statement:
“I have not responded to Edi Rama’s remarks because his statements were not truly directed at me, but were instead a clear and blatant threat to SPAK to close the investigations into Olsi Rama and the ‘Xibraka’ case. Continuing the investigation and uncovering the full truth jeopardizes Edi Rama’s position as Prime Minister, as it would force him to leave politics.
This criminal and intimidating message towards SPAK cannot be disguised as a public reply to me, nor can it be hidden behind fabricated arguments or orchestrated provocations.
Wasn’t it the same Edi Rama who boldly faced an interpellation a few months ago regarding toxic waste, reported by the same whistleblower – me? Why did he feel confident then, but now avoids Parliament at all costs?
Back then, it wasn’t ‘anyone above the Constitution’ – neither his brother Olsi nor the SPAK investigation into Olsi. What changed today? Why did he suddenly recall his brother and SPAK? What prompted Rama’s panic over investigations into a case that was nearly buried in 2018? Why is Edi Rama afraid of the investigation, rushing to have the case closed before the May 2025 elections?
I know Edi Rama disregards the Constitution and the law for his personal power. I am fully aware that he will find any excuse to avoid facing Parliament and the crimes he has committed against Albanians. I know that even his political messages carry a mafia-like tone. I also know he is doing everything possible to intimidate SPAK into closing the investigations into Olsi and the Xibrakë cocaine case. What I didn’t foresee was him hiding behind his younger brother to avoid appearing in Parliament.
Using family to escape accountability before Albanians shows a state of great discomfort. I understand why he hides behind Olsi! The more encrypted messages from SKY ECC and the latest MATRIX leaks are revealed, the more Edi Rama will continue to hide.
He can hide behind social media, stage performances, and fabricate reactions to deliver criminal public messages to SPAK. But rest assured, whether with SPAK or without, his exit from politics will be swift, shameful, and as deserved by a coward who avoids Parliament – a collaborator of gangs that have tortured, robbed, and impoverished his fellow citizens,” Bardhi concluded.
