Erion Veliaj Reacts Furiously to Discovery of €230,000 at Wife’s Gallery
Tirana Mayor Erion Veliaj responded with outrage following reports that €230,000 were discovered at the art gallery owned by his wife, Ajola Xoxa.
The news, initially revealed by the opposition leader, alleged that a digital branch of the National Bureau of Investigation (BKH) reported the large sum to him directly. However, the story was censored across several media outlets, allegedly due to threats from businessman Alban Dabulla, who reportedly warned that he would leak information implicating Olsi Rama (Prime Minister Edi Rama’s brother) in the Xibraka drug case.
Journalist Klodiana Lala also confirmed the discovery of the large sum, reinforcing the credibility of the claims. Despite this, many Tirana-based media platforms have avoided covering the incident, fueling speculation about behind-the-scenes pressure.
During an appearance on “Të Paekspozuarit” on MCN TV, journalist Enton Abilekaj pointed out that SPAK’s investigations reflect a similar hesitation, suggesting that while the Special Prosecution Office probes Veliaj, no significant actions have been taken despite at least five ongoing investigations involving him.
The incident is believed to have triggered internal political tensions. Abilekaj suggested that Prime Minister Edi Rama views Veliaj as a potential successor and rival, leading to what he described as targeted attacks and attempts to undermine Veliaj’s position. Rama’s alleged mockery and sidelining of Veliaj in the past may reflect fears over losing control of the political narrative.
Observers speculate that the investigations into Veliaj could even be sanctioned or influenced by Rama himself, as part of a broader strategy to weaken his perceived competition within the Socialist Party.
As this political drama unfolds, the public awaits further developments and clarity on the future of the investigation.
