TikTok has officially will been shut down in Albania. The government announced the decision today.

Prime Minister Edi Rama announced today that the TikTok platform will be shut down in Albania for one year. He shared this news during a meeting with parents and teachers, discussing the government’s new measures in schools. He stated that he feels relieved knowing that this platform will be shut down in a short period of time.

“It is much stronger, much more influential, much more attractive, that ‘street kid’ from the neighborhood who has TikTok on his phone. TikTok is the ‘street kid’ of the neighborhood. We fear when a child associates with it when they leave the house. We will shut down TikTok for one year. You don’t see street kids, perversions, trash, and filth on China’s TikTok. Today, I feel relieved that after a broad and inclusive discussion with all the stakeholders directly involved in this area of education and child safety, we have a concrete product, with concrete measures, and we are confident that by implementing this plan, we will have a better and safer educational system,” said Rama.
