Despite a solid 2-0 victory in the first leg against Feyenoord, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi remains cautious and focused ahead of the second leg of the Champions League Round of 16.
Inzaghi, speaking to the press ahead of the decisive return match at the San Siro, praised his squad’s efforts but issued a stern reminder: no room for complacency.
“We’re proud of everything we’ve achieved so far, especially considering how many matches we’ve had to play. These players keep surprising us—sometimes we wonder how they even find the energy,” he said.
The match against Feyenoord will mark Inter’s 20th fixture in 2025, a demanding schedule that has tested the team both physically and mentally. Despite the 2-0 lead secured in Rotterdam, the coach emphasized that the Champions League never forgives lapses in concentration.
“Feyenoord is a quality side. The first match went our way, but in this competition, nothing is over until the final whistle. We need to stay focused because every game has its hidden traps,” Inzaghi warned.
Sommer Returns to Goal
The Inter boss also confirmed that Yann Sommer will return to the starting lineup between the posts, despite solid performances from young goalkeeper Raffaele Di Gennaro and Martinez in recent outings.
“Sommer will start. He’s our first choice and has proven his reliability time and time again. That said, Martinez has shown great promise, and we’re pleased with his development.”
Mentality and Depth Are Key
Inter enters this phase of the season as one of the most consistent teams in Europe, currently leading Serie A and showing depth in every department. Inzaghi’s careful squad rotation has allowed the Nerazzurri to remain competitive across multiple fronts.
Yet, the manager knows that progress in the Champions League requires more than talent—it demands mental toughness, concentration, and hunger.
“This is not the time to relax. Our goal is to go as far as possible in Europe. We’ve taken an important step, but we haven’t crossed the finish line yet.”
As the San Siro prepares for another European night under the lights, fans can expect a focused and determined Inter side—not just aiming to defend their advantage, but to make a statement.
